President Obama has run a much more effective foreign policy than Bush did, and that was supposed to be one of the Republicans' strong suits. After Bush/Cheney bungled for 7 years, Obama got bin Laden and has carried the war to al Qaeda's door ruthlessly.

This report is music to Congressional Republicans' ears. Republicans have been trying to sabotage the economy for the past two years, hoping softness in 2012 will bolster their chances to regain the White House. Quite a clever plan, really.

If the Republicans won't play ball with any reasonable compromise on additional tax revenue, then the administration should clearly explain to the American people why the government won't be able to continue paying Social Security checks and Medicare doctor's payments after August 2.
